Many Whiteout Survival players ask themselves: Are my troops gone forever, or can I get them back? This question becomes especially important during major events like State vs State (SvS). In this guide, you’ll find the answer.
Main Mechanics Protecting Your Troops in the Game
Infirmary

When your city is attacked, wounded soldiers are sent to the Infirmary first. If the hospital reaches its capacity, any excess troops cannot be treated there.
Enlistment Office

Excess units that don’t fit into the Infirmary are still partially protected:
- 70% of them go to the Enlistment Office – they are safe there and can be recovered later.
- The remaining 30% are lost permanently (unless the battle takes place during an SvS event – more on that below).
Example: Out of 100,000 fallen troops, 70,000 will be sent to the Enlistment Office, while 30,000 will be lost on the spot.
Important! This only works while defending. If you are the attacker (for example, when attacking someone else’s base), your losses will not go to the Enlistment Office – they are lost immediately.
What Changes During State vs State (SvS)?
The SvS event introduces an additional system: Field Triage.
During the Battle Phase, a new rule applies:
- Defender: 70% of losses still go to the Enlistment Office. The remaining 30% are moved to the Field Triage pool – a temporary revival system. These troops can be recovered after the battle ends.
- Attacker: Losses do not go to the Enlistment Office, but 90% of fallen troops can be recovered through the Field Triage system.
In practice: During SvS, everyone has a chance to recover most of their troops – even those who were attacking.
Field Triage – How Does It Work?
After the SvS battle phase ends, the Field Triage Phase begins. It usually lasts for 2 days.
- By default, you can recover 30% of fallen units from the Field Triage pool.
- By working with your allies (using Rebirth Tomes), you can increase this rate by up to +50%.
- An additional +10% can be purchased with gems (for example, through a Revival Potion).
In total, you can recover up to 90% of troops from the Field Triage pool.
Note: Troops that were sent to the Enlistment Office are not counted as SvS losses – they are stored separately.
A Reddit Example – How Does It Work in Practice?
One player on Reddit shared their experience:
- They had 1 million troops in their base.
- After being attacked, they lost 933,000 of them.
- Here’s how it broke down:
- ~100,000 went to the Infirmary,
- 566,000 went to the Enlistment Office,
- 266,000 appeared as Lost Troops in Field Triage.
With the help of allies and potions, they recovered 90% of those 266k – around 240,000 troops.
In the end, they only lost 26,000 troops out of 1 million. That’s just 2.6% of their entire army!
Summary – What Happens to Your Troops?
- While Defending:
- Wounded go to the Infirmary.
- Excess – 70% to the Enlistment Office, 30% are lost (outside of SvS).
- While Attacking:
- All losses are permanent (outside of SvS).
- During SvS (Battle Phase):
- Defender: same as above, but that 30% goes into Field Triage.
- Attacker: 90% of losses can be recovered through Field Triage.
- After SvS (Triage Phase):
- You have 2 days to revive fallen units.
- With the help of allies and potions, you can recover up to 90%.
What You Need to Remember
- “Lost Troops” in SvS are not all of your losses – they only represent the troops that didn’t go to the Infirmary or the Enlistment Office.
- The Enlistment Office and Field Triage are two separate systems.
- Don’t panic after being attacked – most of your army will return if you understand and use these mechanics correctly.
Troop Losses in 4 Scenarios with Full Breakdown
Mechanic | 1) Defending outside SvS | 2) Attacking outside SvS | 3) Defending during SvS | 4) Attacking during SvS |
---|---|---|---|---|
Hospital (Infirmary) | 150,000 = min(300k, capacity 150k) |
150,000
pure death 35% = 105k → left 195k; = min(195k, capacity 150k) = 150k |
150,000 = min(300k, capacity 150k) | 150,000 wounded go to hospital up to 150k |
Enlistment Office (EO) |
105,000
overflow after hospital = 300k – 150k = 150k; 70% of overflow = 105k |
—attacker outside SvS has no EO | 105,000 70% of 150k overflow = 105k | —attacker doesn’t use EO |
Field Triage → recovered | — | — |
40,500
goes to Triage: 30% of 150k overflow = 45k; 90% recovered = 40.5k |
135,000
losses to Triage = 300k – 150k hospital = 150k; 90% recovered = 135k |
Field Triage → permanent loss | — | — | 4,500 10% of 45k = 4.5k | 15,000 10% of 150k = 15k |
Pure death (instant) | — | 105,000 = 35% of 300k | — | —in SvS all go to Triage |
Overflow (no EO for attacker) | — |
45,000
after pure death 105k → 195k left; 195k – 150k hospital = 45k lost |
— | — |
Total permanent losses | 45,000 = 30% of 150k overflow | 150,000 = 105k pure death + 45k overflow | 4,500 = 10% of 45k Triage | 15,000 = 10% of 150k Triage |
Army left from 1,000,000 | 955,000 | 850,000 | 995,500 | 985,000 |
Notes:
1) EO works only while defending.
2) Pure death ~35% applies to attacker outside SvS and happens before hospital capacity.
3) In SvS we assume 90% recovery from Field Triage.
4) Numbers rounded for readability.
